Strategic Advisor
A material that performs in the lab and cannot be sold is a result, not a product.
Dr. Khan advises ChemEngg Research on where its chemistry meets a market, having spent his career on both sides of that line. He holds a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from the University of Hamburg and an MBA, and has worked across formulation development, gas separation membranes, and European business development for high-performance polymers. He was ChemEngg's business strategy consultant from 2019 to 2022, covering market dynamics and competitive intelligence for the textile, paper, and rubber sectors.
Areas of expertise
Career history
Business development and strategic account management for high-performance polymers including PEEK, PI, TPI, PAI, PEI and PBI. Market intelligence, forecasting, and competitive analysis across EMEA. Supplier and partner relationship management alongside technical sales.
Grew the EU aerospace, automotive, and healthcare segments for thermoplastic sheets and films. New product development and international business development in the high-performance polymers market.
Examined market dynamics, product line performance, and competitive intelligence across the textile, paper, and rubber industries. Worked with clients on prototype applications and economic evaluation, and helped conceptualise new chemicals and engineering technologies.
Led innovation research on polymersomes, block copolymers, stabilizers, and functional polymers, from molecule design through bench prototyping. Took formulations from the laboratory to commercial scale, including the publications and patents behind them.
Work package leader on the EU M-era.Net project MOLFIL-CNM, covering gas separation by tailored molecular filters made from carbon nanomembranes and graphene. Coordinated R&D team activities on porous and non-porous supports, graphene functionalization, and graphene-based membranes.
Work package leader on HARCANA, an EU 7th Framework Programme project on high aspect ratio carbon-based nanocomposites. Fabricated nanocomposite membranes incorporating carbon nanotubes, graphene, silica, POSS, and boranes for gas separation.
