About our contract research lab in Pune
ChemEngg Research is a Contract Research and Manufacturing Organisation based in Pune, led by scientists trained at premier Indian research institutions, working with clients across India and five regions beyond it.
Company profile
ChemEngg Research Pvt. Ltd. delivers customised scientific services to companies in specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and cosmetics. Contract research, analytical capability, and pilot-scale manufacturing sit under one quality system, which means a route developed at our bench can be proven on our own reactors without changing hands.

Our journey
2020
ChemEngg Research Incorporated
The company was registered in Pune as a private limited company, built around a simple conviction: that most industrial chemistry problems are solvable if someone will do the research properly.
2023
Pilot-Scale Capability Added
Glass-lined reactors and a Parr-type hydrogenation reactor came online, taking routes proven at the bench up to pilot-scale batches for the first time.
2024
Chikhali Laboratory Commissioned
The Chikhali facility opened, bringing synthesis, analytical, and pilot work under one dedicated in-house site rather than a shared or borrowed one.
2025
International Programmes Begin
ChemEngg Research took on its first project for an overseas client, extending the same synthesis, analytical, and quality discipline built domestically to an international engagement.
Our mission
To turn difficult industrial chemistry into processes our clients can actually run. We take on the synthesis, the analysis, and the scale-up work that sits outside a company's own bench, and we hand back something documented, reproducible, and economically viable. That is what creating values with chemistry means in practice.
Our vision
To be the research partner that companies anywhere in the world call when the chemistry gets hard. We are building a laboratory in Pune whose work stands comparison with any contract research organisation, so that where the science happens matters far less than how well it is done.
Core values
Metal-organic frameworks, catalyst design, and AEM electrolyzer membranes are not side projects here. We invest in the harder chemistry because that is where our clients eventually need us.
If a route will not scale, we say so early. If your data must stay confidential, it does, under NDA, without needing to be asked twice.
Life cycle analysis, footprint assessment, and effluent recovery are services we sell, which means we already know what to look for in your process.
Most of our work comes from clients who came back. We would rather earn the second project than oversell the first.
Our leadership
The company is run by the people doing the technical work, not a layer above them. Both directors are on the science.

Dr. Vaibhav R. Acham
Founder & Managing Director
Chemistry is the study of matter, but I prefer to think of it as the study of change.
Dr. Acham holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry with expertise in heterogeneous catalyst development and application, having researched at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory in Pune and Humboldt University in Berlin. He brings over fifteen years of industrial R&D experience across specialty chemicals, pyridine chemistry, and food-safety analysis, spanning laboratory establishment, catalyst development, and process scale-up.

Agraja Dharmarao
Director
A protocol that only works when its author is in the room is not a protocol yet.
Agraja Dharmarao leads client engagement and research strategy at ChemEngg Research, covering proposals, research collaborations, and the technical direction of both industrial and academic projects. She is a microbiologist by training and came to the company from laboratory operations management, where she oversaw analytical and microbiological testing and wrote the SOPs and quality protocols behind it.
Full profileSustainability & responsibility
Sustainability here is a service line, not a statement. These are assessments we run for clients, which is why we know what to look for in a process.
We map a product's environmental burden across its life, from raw material extraction to the factory gate or all the way to disposal, so you know which step to fix first rather than guessing.
Quantifying the carbon and water intensity of a process, usually as the groundwork for a customer disclosure request or a regulatory submission you cannot answer from memory.
Industrial waste streams often contain something worth having. We have recovered metals from lithium-ion black mass, iron oxide pigments from iron waste, copper from electronics scrap, and silica from rice husk.
Why choose us
01
Chemists, Not Account Managers
Your project is run by qualified research scientists and lab technicians. The person answering your technical question is the person doing the work.
02
Your Data and IP Stay Yours
Formal NDAs govern every engagement, and results developed for you remain your intellectual property. We will sign before you send anything sensitive.
03
Honest Scoping, Sensible Cost
We tell you when a route will not work before you fund it, and we size the programme to the answer you actually need rather than the one that bills best.
04
You Are Not Left Waiting
Enquiries are answered within one business day, and live projects come with a named contact who knows the chemistry without needing a briefing.

Work with us
Have a problem worth researching?
A first conversation is short. Tell us the chemistry, the volume, and the deadline, and we will come back with a view on whether we can help and what it would take. An NDA can be in place before any of it is discussed.
