Soda Lime

A mixture of calcium and sodium hydroxides used as a carbon dioxide absorbent.

Soda Lime is manufactured for CO2-scrubbing applications including anesthesia circuits and industrial gas purification, supplied as pellets with indicator for consistent absorption capacity. Being a mixture rather than a single compound, it has no molecular formula; what governs performance in service is the hydroxide balance, the moisture content that carries the absorption reaction, and the pellet size that sets the pressure drop across the bed. The colour-change indicator shows exhaustion before breakthrough.
